Wow. That’s probably the best word to describe the Railwayanna section of our 19th August Fine Art Sale. We knew this was going to to be an exciting section of the sale, and the feedback we had been receiving was that there was a lot of interest within the Railwayanna collecting community. The Railwayanna section started with Lot 670, which was “A brass signal box shelfplate “PENTWYN Jc”, 8.2 x 2.2cm, with black wax infill”, and had estimates of £80-120. Bidding ended at £190.00, and the subsequent lots followed the pattern, with bidders in the room bidding frantically against internet and telephone bidders. The two star lots of this section were lots 691 and 693, which were brass signal lever plates, similar ones can be seen in this 2016 BBC segment about traditional Railway signal boxes. Altogether that section of the sale fetched over £11,000.00 in hammer prices for our vendors!
