Established in 1965, the ceramic Groggs began with the potter John Hughes in his humble garden shed. From this makeshift studio came an army of weird and wonderful ceramic creations – mythical creatures from Welsh legend, small animal caricatures and ashtrays, along with the now unmistakable popular clay rugby figures which would become the template for the future. With the Groggs increasing success the brand, The World of Groggs, moved to a permanent studio ‘The Groggshop Gallery and Studio’ in Pontypridd and thus evolved into the treasured brand that it is today.

In the late 1970’s, as Welsh rugby entered the wonderful Golden Era, the World of Groggs followed, celebrating the Welsh team with it renowned figures of Wales’ sporting heroes. This won the Groggs global recognition, not to mention a few famous fans and the list of supporters has continued to grow ever since, with a legion of avid collectors and an array of household names who love being a part of the World of Groggs’ heritage.
