Our July Fine & Antique Auction Has Something for Every Collector

Fine and Antique Auction — Wednesday 22nd July 2026, 11am Jewellery, Silver, Ceramics, Glass, Paintings, Furniture, Clocks, Works of Art, Books & Sporting Memorabilia — over 400 lots

Some auctions have one star lot. This one has a constellation!

Leading the sale is a late Victorian natural pearl and diamond negligée-style pendant brooch (Lot 77, est. £10,000–£15,000) — an exceptional piece set throughout with old European and rose cut diamonds, suspending two articulated knife bar drops. Jewellery of this calibre rarely appears at auction in Wales, and we expect serious attention from collectors and trade alike.

But the beauty of a sale like this is what surrounds the headline act.

For the jewellery and watch buyers

The jewellery section runs deep: an Edwardian five stone diamond ring set with Old Mine Cut diamonds (Lot 29, est. £500–£800), a platinum and 18ct diamond ring with a central stone of approximately 1.5 carats (Lot 108, est. £1,500–£2,000), and a remarkable 18ct gold half hunter pocket watch by Newsome & Co of Coventry, weighing in at a substantial 176.5 grams (Lot 31, est. £2,500–£3,000). Watch collectors will also find Omega, Longines and Seiko among the wristwatches, alongside sovereigns, gold chains and dozens of accessible lots starting well under £100.

Nine hundred years of history in the palm of your hand

Coin collectors, take note: a Henry I silver penny (Lot 153, est. £2,000–£3,000) offers the chance to own a piece of early medieval England — struck within living memory of the Norman Conquest, and possibly a rare double inscription example.

Furniture with a pedigree

The furniture section is headed by a Victorian Gothic revival chamber table by Gillows of Lancaster, in the manner of A.W.N. Pugin (Lot 394, est. £2,500–£3,000) — a museum-quality piece from the most celebrated English cabinetmakers of the nineteenth century. It’s joined by a pair of Regency rosewood card tables with anthemion marquetry friezes (Lot 395, est. £2,000–£2,500) — a motif close to our hearts, for obvious reasons.

Welsh interest throughout

A Cardiff saleroom should have Welsh treasures, and this one delivers: Nantgarw and Swansea porcelain, including pieces from the Sir Leslie Joseph Collection (Lots 263264); John Hughes pottery Groggs of Welsh rugby heroes, among them a signed 1979 figure (Lots 390–392); and — a genuine rarity — a Prince of Wales Investiture chair designed by Lord Snowdon for the 1969 ceremony at Caernarfon Castle, complete with its Welsh tweed Investiture cushion (Lots 394A & 395A, est. £200–£300 and £80–£120).

Pictures, books and silver

Three striking oils by Irish seascape painter Philip Gray lead the picture section (Lots 349–352, est. from £1,000). Bibliophiles will compete for two signed limited edition Arthur Rackham volumesRip Van Winkle (1905) and Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906, number 16 of 500) — Lots 399 and 404. The silver includes a George V four piece tea set by Walker & Hall at nearly 2kg (Lot 188, est. £1,800–£2,000) and a pair of Royal Worcester fruit-painted plates signed by Harry Ayrton (Lot 267, est. £600–£1,000).
