A rare, personal piece from a Cardiff-born boxing icon is up for grabs—don’t let this knockout opportunity slip through your gloves! Lot 359 offers the opportunity to purchase a piece of Cardiff Boxing History.

A rare and prestigious piece of Welsh sporting history is set to go under the hammer at Anthemion Auctions, as a trophy cup once belonging to legendary heavyweight boxer Jack Petersen is offered to collectors and enthusiasts on 23 July 2025
Born in Cardiff in 1911, Jack Petersen became a national icon in the 1930s, making history as the first Welshman to win both the British Light-Heavyweight and British Heavyweight Championships. His meteoric rise saw him defeat Reggie Meen for the heavyweight title at just 20 years old, and his bouts drew massive crowds — including a record 70,000 spectators at White City Stadium.
After retiring from the ring, Petersen continued to shape the sport, serving as President of the British Boxing Board of Control and earning an OBE for his contributions to boxing and Welsh athletics.
“This trophy is more than just silverware,” said Ryan Beach, Senior Partner at Anthemion Auctions. “It’s a symbol of Cardiff’s proud sporting heritage and a tribute to a man who inspired generations with his courage, skill, and leadership.” The auction will take place at Anthemion Auctions, located at 15 Norwich Road, Cardiff, CF23 9AB, with live bidding available online. Interested parties are encouraged to register early and view the listing.
